TALLAHASEE, Fla. – Multiple stabbing victims were being treated at a Florida hospital Wednesday morning and Tallahassee police said a suspect was in custody in the incident, which reportedly unfolded at an industrial park.
Investigators were called to the scene on Tallahassee’s northwest side at around 8:37 a.m. and administered aid to several people who’d been injured in a stabbing.
At least six people have been hospitalized, according to WCTV, which reported the incident happened at Dyke Industries, a company that provides materials for residential and commercial buildings. The severity of the injuries was not immediately known, but one man who was able to call his wife said he’d been stabbed five times, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
Marquitta Campbell said her husband Bobby Riggins Jr. arrived for a job interview at Dyke Industries about 8:30 a.m. She was talking on the phone with him when she heard a commotion.
“The next thing I know, he said, ‘Baby, I’ve been stabbed five times,’” Campbell said on scene as she waited for answers. “‘I’ve been stabbed.’”
Her husband later called her from the hospital to tell her he had internal bleeding and was going into surgery.
Other frantic family members gathered behind police tape and shared stories of the horror that victimized multiple stabbing victims inside the business.
Ellen Mospens said her husband Dennis McMaster escaped without injury. He texted her to say there had been a “massive stabbing” at the business. “Come get me,” he said.
Danielle Buchanan, a hospital spokeswoman, said an initial report of six victims was incorrect.
“One patient is in serious condition; two patients are in fair condition; and two patients are in good condition,” she said.
A possible motive and the type of weapon used was not immediately clear, either. Authorities were urging anyone with information to contact the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-4200.
