What motivates you to stay well? What is the real answer to this question? Money, family, children, faith, career or any combination of these could be viewed as viable answers.
When we speak of motivation, we are really talking about “reason.” Keep in mind that staying well requires real effort. One cannot inundate themselves with processed foods, grains, sugary snacks, a sedentary life, a lax attitude and a general lack of care and expect to have optimum health. As a matter of fact, these actions are certain to increase untimely aging and premature death. Rather than give you tips on what to do, I thought it wise to give you reasons not to fall prey to the standard American diet (SAD), a life of inactivity and a deception to think health does not matter.
So, what is or what provides you with a reason to stay well?
When it comes to your health, the reasson really should encompass all: money, family, children, faith, etc. To understand this concept fully, let me break down each of these "reasons" and explain what happens if you choose to not take care of your health.
Money
You will spend more money being sick by paying for doctor visits, surgeries, medications or hospital stays. You will not be able to spend your money on the things you enjoy because you will have less of it and not physically feel like it. You will increase the likelihood of dying sooner and therefore not enjoy the fruits of your years of labor.
Family
Your family will have to care for you versus you caring for them. They will see less of the best of you because the best of you has been depleted by poor health. Additionally, your family certainly deserves nothing except your best.
Children
Not being about to play with and enjoy your children during their active at home years is very sad. Imagine your child asking you to throw a football with him/her, and you cannot because you are too sick or fatigued to leave your favorite chair.
Grandchildren
Really? You will be fortunate to see them start school.
Faith
Your body (called the temple) was created with you in mind to enjoy movement. It was further designed for you to have a base of responsibility. To fail to take responsibility to care for your body (inside and out) is to fail your very essence of “reason.”
Reason, my friend, is all you need for motivation. Aren't the people and concepts listed above reason enough? You really must ask yourself on a daily basis what motivates you. Be honest in your answers. Then let all your reasons explode your motivation.
