TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA) – Takoma Park police shot and killed a bank robber, who was holding a woman hostage outside of the Capital One bank at 1181 University Blvd.
Police shot the man who was holding a hostage at gunpoint outside of the bank at around 9:30 a.m. They confirm to 9NEWS NOW that suspect has died.
The hostage ran to safety as gunfire was exchanged.
Montgomery County Fire and EMS spokesman Captain Oscar Garcia says the Prince George's County Police officer has a gunshot wound to the leg. The injury is considered to be non-life threatening. He says an adult male who said he was grazed by a bullet was transported with a "minor abrasion." An adult female was hyperventilating and taken to the hospital. The fourth person transported, Garcia says, was an adult female who suffered a puncture wound.
Montgomery County Police Cpl. Dan Friz tells 9NEWS NOW the SWAT team is sweeping the bank to make sure there are no other suspects inside the bank.
