On Sunday, New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. and fellow receiver Victor Cruz will be wearing meaningful pairs of cleats as the Giants play on the anniversary of 9/11.
Shoe company Kickasso designed the special footwear. Here’s what owner Troy Cole told ESPN:
“It’s a special cleat for a couple reasons. I mean opening day is on 9/11. And Odell wanted to pay tribute to the heroes of 9/11, and not toward the tragedy aspect, with the falling building and the heroes all around kind of helping and saving people. That is why it’s kind of special and going to be pretty cool.”
Titan Linebacker Avery Williamson wanted to wear a patriotic pair of cleats from Nike but he was told that he would be fined by the NFL if he did so.
It has not yet been reported whether Beckham or Cruz have obtained approval to wear their cleats.
