Southport (NC) Police Officer Jason Freeman is dead after a one-car accident in Supply. He had been with the agency less than a year.
According to Southport Police Chief Gary Smith and the Southport Police Department Facebook page, it happened early Sunday morning.
Chief Smith released this statement, “It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully inform you that this morning, at approximately 5am, Officer Jason Freeman of the Southport Police Department, was killed in a single vehicle wreck in the area of 1269 Stone Chimney Road in Supply. Officer Freeman was not on duty at the time but was, however, in his patrol vehicle.”
It is not clear why the officer was operating his patrol vehicle off duty or why the Chief quickly made that announcement.
