KNOE reports that an on-duty Winnsboro Police Department Officer was killed in a car crash on Louisiana State Highway 4, Prairie Road, in the early morning hours, Saturday.
Sergeant Derrick Mingo, who has been with the Winnsboro Police Department for five years, was in route to assist another officer pursuing a drunk driver.
Winnsboro Chief of Police George Wilhite stated that the crash occurred at approximately 4:30am. Sergeant Mingo left the roadway and struck a tree.
Chief Wilhite stated that this was a tragic loss. Sergeant Mingo has served the public faithfully since he was 18 years old. Chief Wilhite also stated that Sergeant Mingo was extremely dedicated to his job as a police officer. He was willing to do any task assigned and did so gladly.
Prior to working with the Winnsboro Police Department, Sergeant Mingo worked for the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office for 12 years.
Sheriff Kevin Cobb stated that Sergeant Mingo loved his job as a police officer. Sheriff Cobb also stated that on behalf of the Franklin Parish Law Enforcement Community our thoughts and prayers go out to his wonderful family.
