California: 4 Line of Duty Deaths In 2 Weeks

On Wednesday, 31 year-old Modoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Jack Hopkins responded to a reported assault or disturbance in a rural area 10 miles south of Alturas and became the 4th line of duty death in California in just 2 weeks.

He had been a deputy for 1 year.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting and the shooting is under investigation by the CHP as well as authorities from neighboring counties’ sheriff’s offices.

By 11 a.m., a suspect was taken into custody. The suspect’s identity was not released.

Deputy Hopkin’s murder comes after two Palm Springs police officers were shot to death during a domestic disturbance call and a Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant was shot and killed in the high desert town of Lancaster while answering a burglary call.
