LINCOLN, Neb. – Police say they have cited a 32-year-old Lincoln man on gun charges after he accidentally shot himself in the genitals.
Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said they were called to Bryan West Campus at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday about a man with a gunshot wound, reported Lincoln Journal Star.
The wounded man was identified as Peter Jacobsson.
Bonkiewicz said Jacobsson gave conflicting accounts of how the shooting occurred. However, police believe he was walking in the 3300 block of Portia Street, near 14th and Adams streets, when a .22-caliber gun dropped out of his pocket, hit the ground and discharged. As a result, police concluded the unlucky man was struck in the genitals.
Although it sounds extremely painful, Bonkiewicz said the injured man was left with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday, police cited Jacobsson on suspicion of discharging a firearm in the city and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person.
