Las Vegas Metro K9 Killed

Las Vegas Metro police confirm that Metro K9 Nicky, who was wounded during a barricade situation February 12th, was shot and killed this afternoon in the northwest Las Vegas Valley during an officer-involved shooting.

A man and a woman were found dead in a home nearby after officers deployed the K9 to take down the armed suspect. Officers told News 3 that K9 Nicky was killed during an exchange of gunfire with the suspect. That suspect was shot and wounded and taken to UMC Trauma for treatment.

The suspect was randomly shooting at people in the community before he was shot by police officers. That shooter has not been identified at this time.

Condolences of course and God bless K-9 Officer Nicky. But in every photo I have seen of Nicky since this happened…no vest. Ever. Did Nicky have a vest on? And if not…why not? I am seeing this more and more and I wish these police departments would start vesting these animals or explain why not. I have asked and there is never a response. There are a few company’s that make a state-of-the-art custom vest and this is just one. Those animals also belong to the community and we need to start asking the questions and demanding answers. Maybe we can help save the next K-9 Officer. Because if there is a good reason(s) for not vesting a K-9…I haven’t seen it yet.

And please…only police departments with K-9 officers respond here so we can get an on the record response from a current knowledgable and responsible source. Thank you.

this is heart braking, what kind of person kills a Dog? much less such a priceless K9 Officer knowing it’s a felony? K9 Officer Nicky was sent to protect the officers and they most likely shot him, why do these Officers who have a shooting range shoot when they don’t have a clean shot? too many times we are seeing that the Police are killing people, now they send this Innocent Dog to it’s death while protecting themselves, I hope i’m wrong but It’s sounding like he might have been shot by his own team, why are these dogs not given protective gear there’s a lot of choices, the Police department needs to get it for them the same as they do Officers, God bless you K9 Officer Nicky we thank you for your service, R.I.P.

My prayers and condolences go out to the Las Vegas Metro Police, to the human partner of deceased K-9 Nicky who was shot to death in responding to a domestic call. I am so very sorry for your loss.
K-9 Nicky was a very strong K-9 to have been previously injured and come back on the force only to have this happen. It is truly sad. RIP K-9 Nicky, and thanks you for doing such a wonderful job.

I am in tears right now after hearing that Nicky was killed in the line of duty today. After everything he went through I am so sad. I sure hope the man who killed Nicky will be tried for murdering an officer. I just can’t say anything more I am too upset but Rest In Peace dear sweet Nicky we will all see you at the Rainbow Bridge.

The 9th circuit court does not recognize K9s as officers. The suspect will not be charged with killing a police officer but he may be charged with a lesser crime that doesn’t carry as much time.

      • Renee

Not fair. He should be tried for murder. Nicki was a officer just not fair. RIP Nicki thank you for your service

  14. Michelle

RIP sweet Nicky. Thank you for your service. Bubba, please welcome Nicky at the Bridge?
