FARMINGTON, Utah – Davis County Sheriff’s Office had a police service dog suffer a fatal accident Nov. 20. K9 Chopper was killed in traffic. This is the announcement made by the Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page:
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Chopper, a K-9 with Davis County Sheriff’s Office for 5.5 years. Last night, at approximately 7:15 pm, he managed to get out of the truck kennel and ran north, toward State Street (near our office in Farmington). Chopper ran directly into live traffic, was hit, and the impact killed him instantly. He was a talented 6.5 year old Shepherd mix and he will be missed.
We plan to hold a line-of-duty memorial service for Chopper and details will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
RIP Chopper. We love you!
He served DCSO as an apprehension, drug detection, and tracking K9 during his tour of duty, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
