When Indianapolis K9 Officer Ron Shelnutt was asked to film the services of fallen Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz, he didn’t know that the filming would turn into a letter to Carl’s infant son, Noah. What follows is a beautiful letter from K9 Officer Shelnutt to a son that will one day watch a more beautiful video.
Dear Noah,
I was at your Dad’s funeral. I never met your father, but from what I saw and heard on this day, he was loved and admired by many. I was ask by the Indiana State Police to come and film your fathers services. They will make their own video for your family and the public. I made this video for you, knowing that you will not remember this day. I hope, in some small way, when you are older this video helps you see what happened. Police officers and deputies from around the country came to see your father and to honor him. Citizens of Howard County and from all around Indiana came out to show respect and to say thank you to your Dad. I hope to meet you some day and tell you what I saw.
Kind Regards,
Ron Shelnutt
