SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Safe Communications Inc. (Pink Sheets: SGTB.pk) recently launched www.AnonymousTips.com, a new website where law enforcement officials can register to receive tips about bullying and other dangerous behavior from concerned students, parents and teachers. Completely anonymous, the new site gives bullied students an avenue to share information with authorities without fear of reprisal.
“AnonymousTips.com is an important new tool to connect parents and students with the school and law enforcement officials who can help stop bullying and harassment before it has tragic consequences,” said Terry Hillard, a Child Cyber-Safety Advisory Board member and former Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department.
The free service collects anonymous tips about bullying and other dangerous behavior from students, parents, teachers and other users.
After screening the tips for legitimacy and relevance, the service forwards the information to the appropriate school or law enforcement officials. School administrators and local safety officials are encouraged to complete the short, one-time registration process on AnonymousTips.com to begin receiving tips from the public.
“It’s important for law enforcement agencies to get involved with a program like AnonymousTips.com,” said Safe Communications Inc. Child Cyber-Safety Advisory Board Chairman Charles Vance, a 14-year veteran of the U.S. Secret Service. “Taking a few minutes to register on AnonymousTips.com will help foster the collaborative atmosphere we need to get students, parents, and officials working together to stop bullying and keep our kids safe.”
A 2009 study by the National Institute of Health found that more than half of students in grades 6 through 10 reported being verbally or socially bullied. One in five students was bullied physically, while one in seven reported being cyber-bullied. The emerging problem of cyber-bullying is especially dangerous because bullied students are more likely to show signs of depression, according to a recent NIH study.
AnonymousTips.com also allows adults to take a proactive role in protecting our children by reporting problems they see and by encouraging children to report bullying without fear of reprisal. The free site allows users to locate the proper authorities in schools, police departments or government offices, and anonymously inform them of bullying.
AnonymousTips.com’s system is independent of any district or government, so informers can be confident that they are protected from being identified. The screening process helps ensure that local officials get the most relevant and useful information possible. The service can be used to report any kind of bullying, including physical bullying, cyber-bullying and internet harassment, child and domestic abuse, gang or drug activity, and other suspicious or illegal activities.
Schools and agencies across the country have already signed up to receive tips via AnonymousTips.com, and more are coming on board every day.
