OKEMAH, Oklahoma — An Okfuskee County sheriff's deputy has been killed in an auto accident on Interstate 40 near Okemah while he was responding to a call for assistance from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
News9.com reports that the deputy was responding to a call for assistance from a trooper who was trying to arrest a suspected drunken driver when the deputy went off the interstate and struck a cable barrier and his vehicle overturned.
The deputy was reportedly not wearing a seatblet and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy's name and other information were not immediately released.
