CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey police officer is being credited with saving the life of an unconscious driver he rescued from a burning truck.
Cape May Officer Scott Krissinger's dashboard camera shows him rushing to the pickup Monday night and pulling out the driver as flames engulfed the vehicle.
It also shows him going back a second time to make sure there are no passengers.
Police Capt. Robbie Sheehan tells WMGM-TV that the department is very proud of Krissinger. He calls him "a hero in every sense of the word."
Krissinger says the smoke was so thick he couldn't see anything. He says any officer on the Cape May force would have done the same thing.
Police say the pickup's driver, 61-year-old Gerald Ferrill of Mays Landing, is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
