SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Highway Patrol says a 33-year-old federal law enforcement officer is dead after his patrol vehicle crashed about 100 miles east of Salt Lake City.
Bureau of Indian Affairs Officer Joshua Yazzie died in the crash about 6:15 p.m. Monday near the Bottle Hollow Reservoir on the Ute Indian Reservation in Uintah County.
Troopers say Yazzie was on his way to help paramedics working with an intoxicated person who was behaving violently.
The UHP reports that Yazzie wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car when it crashed down a 200-foot embankment about a mile south of U.S. Highway 40 and four miles east of Roosevelt.
He's survived by his wife and two children.
