Ford Recalls Basically Every Police Car It Built in the Past Few Years

It appears that Ford Police Interceptor sedans have a problem. And it’s not a little problem, either. They reportedly like to shut off randomly, and if they do, there’s no way to restart them. But Ford issued a recall today to fix that.

CBS Detroit reports that more than 88,000 cars and SUVs are affected, including every Ford Police Interceptor sedan built at the Chicago plant between 2013 and 2015. The automaker says the fuel pump control modules can fail, causing the cars to stall unexpectedly. And if that happens, you can’t turn the car back on.

That’s definitely inconvenient if it happens while parked, but on the road, it could be incredibly dangerous.

Interceptors aren’t the only cars affected by the fuel pump issue, either. The 2013-2015 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT are also included. But the recall only applies to cars equipped with the company’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It also doesn’t apply to the Explorer-based Police Interceptor SUVs, which Ford says actually make up two-thirds of its Interceptor sales.

Ford says no wrecks or injuries have been reported yet.

So everyone seems to be missing that the headline is purely an attention getter, in the article it states that only “sedan(s) built at the Chicago plant between 2013 and 2015” then “But the recall only applies to cars equipped with the company’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It also doesn’t apply to the Explorer-based Police Interceptor SUVs, which Ford says actually make up two-thirds of its Interceptor sales.”

So the recall really only applies to a portion of 1/3 of the police cars that were sold for 3 model years. The headline should read “Ford Recalls Cars built In Chicago with 3.5L EcoBoost”

Can Ford fix them so they only stall when they chase speeders?

Exactly the reason I don’t buy Fords for any reason – Ford Police Cars have been crap since they were built back in the 90’s – and Fords are crap now – Chevy & Chrysler are not any better.
