Pokemon Go, the new reality game that was intended to send players out into the real world has led one woman to find a dead body.
Shayla Wiggins, 19, from Riverton, Wyoming, says that on Friday morning the game prompted her to find a Pokemon in a natural water source.
Instead, as local Community news site County 10 reported, she found something else in a river: a dead body.
“I was walking towards the bridge along the shore when I saw something in the water,” she told County 10. “I had to take a second look and I realized it was a body.”
She said the body was of an average-size male, wearing a black shirt and black pants.
She said she called 911 and detectives arrived.
Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee confirmed Wiggins’ find to KCWY-TV.
Pokemon Go turns the premise of the popular Game Boy games into an augmented reality experience played on mobile phones and based on GPS coordinates.
Different Pokemon can be captured in different areas, and other elements of the game rely on the player moving to specific coordinates for in-game rewards or to battle
for control of gyms. The game was developed by the same company that made Ingress, which relied upon similar GPS mechanics.
Pokemon Go has been temporarily suspended in some countries, as the servers weren’t prepared for quite the popularity it’s already achieved.
