South Florida police officers have been placed on high alert after learning about a credible threat that a group of people are looking to target officers, sources said.
Miami-Dade police spokesman Michael Hernandez would confirm only that Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has been briefed on a security matter.
Police also said that the FBI is investigating.
“We are aware of a credible threat towards law enforcement in the South Florida area,” FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock said. “As a result, the Southeast Florida Fusion Center issued an officer safety bulletin about the threat this morning. Given this matter is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available.”
Law enforcement sources said officers have been instructed not to respond to calls alone as a precaution.
This credible threat comes on the heels of a so called planned “Day Of Rage” across America designed to attack law enforcement.
While this is circulating on online, we have not found any credible evidence that this is nothing more than a hoax. In fact, it is virtually identical to one that was circulated two years earlier after the shooting of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
