Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson made a social statement regarding the “senseless killings of both citizens and police” by wearing specially designed cleats during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns at FedEx Field.
Jackson commissioned artist Marcus Rivero — a.k.a. SolesBySir — to put a yellow caution tape design on his cleats to protest the deaths of African Americans at the hands of police officers.

Jackson told TMZ, “Senseless killings have been ongoing for awhile and police brutality in our black community … and as a young black leader with a stage and platform I’m starting awareness to help prevent these killings, and hopefully get justice to these cops who have taken lives of innocent human beings.”
It is unknown whether the NFL will fine Jackson for wearing the cleats during a game. The Dallas Cowboys were denied a request to wear a sticker on their helmets in support of law enforcement earlier in the season.
The Redskins declared their support for Jackson in a statement.
“We stand in support of both DeSean and the law enforcement community,” the team said. “We have great respect for law enforcement and the sacrifices they make each and every day to protect and serve our communities. We continue to have open dialogue with our players about issues that are important to them and support their efforts to bring awareness to those issues when done in a responsible manner.”
