The Chicago Police Department has canceled days off for the vast majority of its 12,000 officers through the weekend to prepare for massive crowds clogging the Wrigleyville neighborhood as the Cubs host the World Series at Wrigley Field over the weekend.
Most officers will be expected to work 12-hour shifts from Friday through at Sunday – as well as Tuesday and Wednesday if the series winds up in Cleveland for the final game or two.

Officials have said more than 1,000 law enforcement officers would patrol Wrigleyville during the weekend, including Chicago police officers, uniformed and plainclothes federal agents from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, Illinois state police troopers and Cook County sheriff’s deputies.
Fans can expect rotating streets closures, increased traffic enforcement, parking restrictions, random bag inspections, security checkpoints and counterfeit ticket enforcement.
Officers who work the overnight and morning shifts in the city’s 22 patrol districts will continue to work in their districts. Patrol officers assigned to Wrigleyville will primarily work the afternoon to evening shift during and after the games, the memo said.
