There is a ‘Blue Flu’ in Selma. Ten Selma police officers called in sick Thursday, including the entire day shift.
Chief John Brock says none of the officers will be punished, but there’s controversy over the so-called “sick out.” The officers are demanding a pay raise, but Chief Brock believes there’s a political reason for the move
“Any statement or assertions that this is only about the money and this is only about an election are absolutely false,” Selma Police Officer Michael Kyser said. “We are concerned about the safety of the community, a safe working environment, up to date and safe equipment.”
There’s no evidence any political candidate requested the officers call in sick. City leaders and police are expected to meet next week to discuss the dispute.
