The National Fraternal Order of Police have launched a new website and social media campaign to spotlight the heroism of law enforcement—and the incredible job that officers do every day. The campaign is called “Our True Heroes.”
National FOP President Chuck Canterbury states that “we are a profession in crisis. No one knows this better than we do—the men and women on the street. Suddenly, all the good we do every day is forgotten, lost in the 24-hour news cycle and the ubiquity of social media.”
The goal is to tell the stories of everyday American heroes who put their lives on the line so that our communities are safe. These stories happen every day, all across the country. Canterbury states, “You wouldn’t know it because these stories are not featured on the 6 o”clock news.”
The website went live this week. Several stories are on the website. One is about two officers from Kent, Ohio.
“On December 25, 2015, at 2:36 AM, Officers Matt Brooks and Matt Butcher of the Kent Police Department responded to a car crash. When they arrived, the car was engulfed in flames with the driver still inside. Working quickly, the officers quickly pulled the driver from the car, tore off his burning clothes and wrapped him in a blanket. If not for their decisive action, the driver would not have survived.”
