A Texas sheriff has vowed not to hug anyone outside of his family and close friends in order to guard against allegations of sexual assault.
Jim Kaelin, sheriff for Nueces County, 140 miles south of San Antonio, told people to expect a handshake or a fist-bump in a Facebook post uploaded last week.
Kaelin said he was ‘sad’ about the situation ‘but you just don’t know when this hug might come back and bite you’.
Kaelin wrote: ‘To my Facebook friends let me say this to you, my hugging days (outside family and or close friends) are over.
‘Sad, but you just don’t know when this hug might come back and bite you.
