The Georgia State Patrol says a man is dead after he managed to fire a weapon hidden behind his back while handcuffed and strike a trooper during a traffic stop on I-75. It was the second officer shot in the State of Georgia today.
The shooting happened at exit 293 in Cartersville near the exit ramp to Highway 411 in Bartow County.
A trooper pulled a car over that was driving too slow in the fast lane. After pulling the car over, the trooper found a couple who were driving with illegal drugs, money and a gun in the car.
Troopers handcuffed the man behind his back, but the suspect was able to grab a pistol hidden in his waistband and fire at the troopers. One was struck stomach but was protected by a bullet-proof vest.
The troopers opened fire on the suspect and shot him multiple times.
He was taken to the hospital and later died.
The trooper was treated at the hospital and released.
