A Redwood City (CA) police officer died after he was found unresponsive inside a police station while on duty Friday morning, according to police.
Officer Gerardo Silva, 57, was on patrol when he failed to report back to the station after responding to a call, according to a news release. A search of the facility was initiated and the 18-year veteran of the Redwood City Police Department was soon after discovered unconscious and not breathing inside the facility.

Officers immediately started CPR and application of an in-house defibrillator until Redwood City Fire Department and EMS personnel took over. Silva was transported to Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center, but efforts of hospital staff failed to resuscitate him.
He died of natural causes, according to the release.
