Police Endure Flames and Bullets As Shooting Kills 5
Phoenix police and firefighters responded to a shooting and had to endure bullets and flames as they responded to a house fire that left five family members dead Tuesday, including the gunman.
A 911 caller described the shooting as a domestic situation. The first officers on scene went into the house because they felt lives were in immediate danger.
Gunfire erupted and the flames grew as officers entered the scene.
The shooter fired at officers who put on breathing gear to go into the burning home to help the victims. Three officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
Four people killed in the morning violence were adults, and a girl. Police shot and killed the gunman.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton was at the scene.
“This is what heroes look like……Their professionalism and their heroism under the worst possible conditions has truly blown me away.”
As the flames have gone out there is a grueling after math for authorities to deal with. Not only will the scene be a painstaking process but our thoughts and prayers remain with the first responders that have been impacted by this horrific crime.
