Joshua Anthony Sumter, 18, was apprehended in southern Stafford County around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said that Sumter fired multiple shots at a Stafford County deputy sheriff as the deputy responded to a call about a break-in on Windsor Ridge Court in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The deputy sheriff was taken to the hospital in serious condition with extensive but non-life threatening injuries.
Before his arrest, authorities said Sumter was considered armed and dangerous, and issued a warrant for him for attempted capital murder.

Law Officer is the only major law enforcement publication and website owned and operated by law enforcement. This unique facet makes Law Officer much more than just a publishing company but is a true advocate for the profession.
