WCTV reports that the second officer shot by a suspect in Americus (GA) on Wednesday has died.

Georgia Southwestern State University Officer Jodi Smith was initially airlifted from the scene in critical condition following the shooting that killed 25-year-old Americus Police Officer Nicholas Smarr.

Officer Smith, 26, passed away from his injuries on Thursday.

Both had been officers since 2012. The officers were reportedly best friends and had graduated from high school and the police academy together.

Police say the suspect in the deadly shooting, 32-year-old Minquell Kennedy Lembrick, barricaded himself inside a home on Thursday morning before taking his own life.

This is so heart breaking. Having been an officer for over 35 years form NY to Los Angeles, there has never been a time like these, where our brothers and sisters in blue are being ambushed, and shot on a daily basis. I’ve had several friends killed in the line of duty, that have been memorialized at freeway interchanges. I give them a salute and a prayer each time I pass their sign. Prayers and blessing to the families, and all the officers in the department. We give honor to our fallen comrades, and have to battle the negative lies that the media puts forth. If more people knew the truth about our American heroes, they would have the utmost faith and respect to everyone in Law Enforcement.

I wish these idiots would kill their selves before they take another’s life.
