Click 2 Houston reports that rescue crews are searching Monday for a missing Bexar County (TX) deputy after her cruiser was likely swallowed Sunday night by a sinkhole in San Antonio.
According to KSAT-TV, at least two vehicles were covered by water after the 20-foot-deep sinkhole opened up underneath them. Bystanders rescued one person from one of the vehicles. Firefighters confirmed Monday that they are working to recover a body from the second vehicle.
On Monday morning, WOAI-TV reported that sources confirmed crews are searching for the missing deputy, and that they believe her cruiser was the second vehicle.
While her identity was not immediately released, WOAI-TV reports that she is a part-time deputy who works at the Bexar County Courthouse.
More than six inches of rain fell in the San Antonio area by Monday morning. Investigators said they believe the heavy rain coupled with a burst water pipe are to blame for the hole.
