Officer Weaver was the only officer assigned to the recreation yard at the time. Inmates who witnessed the incident stated that Officer Weaver was attempting to avoid a football that had been thrown in the yard.

Officer Weaver was transported to Paoli Hospital where he remained until succumbing to his injuries.

Officer Weaver was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for 13 years. He is survived by his wife.
