It’s unclear what led to the shooting and the shooting is under investigation by the CHP as well as authorities from neighboring counties’ sheriff’s offices.

By 11 a.m., a suspect was taken into custody. The suspect’s identity was not released.

Deputy Hopkin’s murder comes after two Palm Springs police officers were shot to death during a domestic disturbance call and a Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant was shot and killed in the high desert town of Lancaster while answering a burglary call.
