A police officer was reportedly shot in Randolph County on Saturday.
Helfin police confirmed on social media that a police officer was shot Saturday and a person was taken hostage by the suspect.
Sources told Law Officer that the officer was airlifted to a hospital.
The department didn’t disclose what agency the officer works for and the severity of the injuries.
Lake Wedowee Life Magazine posted to its Facebook page that there is a reported hostage situation in the Swagg Cove Area of Lake Wedowee.
County Road 121 is blocked at County Road 431, according to the report.
According to the Anniston Star, a SWAT team is staging at Bethel West Baptist Church on County Road 329 in Randolph County.
The Heflin Police Department posted this to its Facebook page Saturday afternoon: “Please be praying for our Randolph County brother pfficers, Heflin PD officers, and all other L.E. officers responding to assist in stopping the Madness in Randolph County.”
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is assisting the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
