Multiple Deputies Shot In Colorado, One Fatal
Update: Zackari Parrish, 29, was identified as the deputy killed in the shooting. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The wounded officers were identified as Mike Doyle, 28; Taylor Davis, 30; Jeffrey Pelle, 32; and Tom O’Donnell, 31. Pelle is the son of Boulder Sheriff Joe Pelle.
Parrish had given up a career in banking because his dream was to be a police officer. He worked at Castle Rock PD prior to joining the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department just seven months ago.
A review of Parrish’s Facebook page showed him honoring multiple fallen officers in recent years.
Update: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said that at 5:13 a.m. deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Copper Canyon Apartments in Highlands Ranch south of Denver. During the investigation, shots were fired, wounding an undisclosed number of deputies. It is unclear if any civilians were shot, but the update said there is no status on their injuries.
Our sources tell us that one deputy has died from the incident and the suspect has been taken into custody. Those reports have not been confirmed by officials.
Multiple deputies are down in Douglas County, prompting a shelter in place for residents near C-470 between University and Colorado.
Around 6 a.m., deputies responded to a shots fired call at 3404 E. County Line Road.
The sheriff’s office said in a tweet at 6:43 a.m. the scene is regarding an officer down in the area of County Line Road, near Colorado Boulevard between University Boulevard.
About an hour later, the agency tweeted an update that multiple deputies were down, but could not offer an update on their conditions.
9 News reports that the scene is active and people are advised to avoid the area. Anyone who lives in the area is urged to shelter in place, avoid windows and stay away from exterior walls.
