A man fatally shot by a Monroe County (IL) sheriff’s deputy Wednesday ignored orders to drop the running chainsaw he raised as he aggressively approached the deputy and his partner.
Illinois State Police said the deputy had been called to the scene of a shooting when the man confronted the deputy with the chainsaw.
The man was identified as Edwin J. Esker, 53.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Esker was the ex-husband of a woman that lived in the residence and she had called police that he was threatening her with the chainsaw while trying to get inside the residence.
