Greenville (SC) Police Officer Shot and Killed

A father of two and a decorated war veteran was killed on Friday in an officer-involved shooting.

Greenville Police Officer Allen Jacobs, 28, was attempting to apprehend Deontea Perry Mackey, a wanted subject and self-admitted gang-member when the shooting occurred.

Mackey, 17, ran from officers where he began firing at the officers.

Jacobs, a 4 1/2 year veteran of the police department, was struck numerous times. At this time, police do not believe any of the officers returned fire.

The other officers, who were not injured, called for backup and began rendering aid to Jacobs.

Additional officers responded and established a perimeter in the immediate area. As the perimeter closed in, Mackey shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to joining the Greenville Police Department, he served in the United States Army. He was a decorated Iraq war veteran and received numerous medals and commendations for his service.

Jacobs was married and the father of two young boys. His wife is pregnant with the couple’s daughter due to be born in July
