Customs Officer Shoots 2 Teens After Attack, Kills 1

One of two teenage robbery suspects shot and wounded by an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer — who authorities said was defending himself against attackers — died early Saturday at an area hospital.

The 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at 5:34 a.m., the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported.

The teen who was killed was identified by family as 15-year-old Darius Smith. The boy’s mother Reshawna Myricks said she cannot believe he’d be involved in a robbery.

She said the officer should have fired warning shots — instead of aiming at the boys.

“It’s not right. And I want to know what happened because the story you said ain’t the truth,” Myricks said. “The crazy part is they let you walk on … my baby is not walking on no more.”

Darius Smith is seen in an undated photo provided by family members on May 27, 2017.

A 14-year-old boy who was also struck by gunfire remained at an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A third teenage suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was in custody following the incident, which was reported at 8:13 p.m. Friday near First Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, according to Deputy Caroline Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the shooting.

The officer suffered bruising to his face during the attack.  Authorities say that the officer was walking along the sidewalk on First Avenue, just south of Colorado Boulevard, when he was attacked from behind by the three teenage boys.

One of the suspects hit the officer in the head several times while another pointed a handgun at the officer and demanded his property.

The agent retrieved his department issued handgun and defended himself.

The suspect with the handgun, the 15-year-old boy, and another suspect, one of the 14-year-old boys, were struck by the gunfire while the third suspect ran away when the shooting started and was not hit.

The 15-year-old suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

The mom of the dead robber says. The officer should have shot a warning shot. Really lady a warning shot. This lady was clueless of the fact her son was out robbing people. He picked the wrong one.

  2. digipimp75

Well gee whiz, whaddya know? Young black males… didn’t see that coming.

“It’s not right. And I want to know what happened because the story you said ain’t the truth.” The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it?

    Hickory dickory dock.
Three thugs ran into a Glock.
The Glock struck one, and two others escaped with minor injuries.

Is it racist that they are referred to as ‘boys”? Maybe it should be thugs or punk ass bitches.just sayin.

  6. Just(R)ight.

What, no baby daddy? What a shocker

  7. NothingPersonalBut

These young men are suddenly just ‘babies’ when they suffer the consequences of their actions. So out of phuccks to give anymore.

  8. Greg L.

Warning shots? He did fire “warning shots.” They are a warning to the rest of the hoodrats to seek other ways of augmenting their public assistance.

    The Bell Curve anyone?

  12. Ben Carter

    Haha …

‘She said the officer should have fired warning shots — instead of aiming at the boys.’

Sure. Let those bullets maybe hit some random innocent passerby as opposed to the one committing the crime. No accountability at all.

  13. Snake Plissken, the Deplorable

Maybe the victim DID fire warning shots and the boy stepped right into them . . . ya never know . . .

  14. Play to win

If he were a bit older, the photo supplied would probably have been in his cap and gown. It is somewhat surprising that we have not heard yet that he is a “sports star”. Was he getting his life back together?

  15. Anthony Kingsford

Darius could have been a astronaut if not for this little problem

  16. Dave L.

Jes las week, he tol me he was gonna turn his life aroun and become a doctor, en hep peoples. He was a goot boy, he didnt do nuffin !!

    • Paul Kersey

The most dangerous thing for humans is to encounter one of them when they are turning their lives around.

  17. steven smigiel

Picture will be posted of kid when he was 10, protests commence demanding “justice”.

  18. SCPOret

He was a good boy, never did nuffin to nobody. He was studying hard and expected to get a scholarship to San Diego state. He had both hands raised and was begging for his life and dat man made him get down on his knees and shot him in the back of the head while he was saying his rosary while facing towards Mecca. Dat cop has to be persecuted to the full extent of the black lives matter laws.???

  19. Gary

Thankfully the victim was armed. Another tax payer relief shot

  20. Guardrail

We do not fire warning shots. Warning shots are for losers and dead people. Besides, bullets are expensive these days sooo …….

  21. 338Lapua

    Reshawna…..

    I anyone surprised?

  22. CrushAllDems

All I can say is too bad there is only one dead instead of three…

  23. Pathfinder306

Mom, your little thug played the Darwin game and came up on the short end. You might should have taught him to not commit armed robbery.

  24. Katrina

If this wasn’t so sad, it would be hilarious. Mama wants to know what happened (she doesn’t know) because “the story you said ain’t the truth” She believes that why? Well, mama, it is a GOOD thing that the intended victim of your boy’s crime is the one to “walk on”. It is not OK to take someone else’s property at gun point. The people being robbed have a right to defend themselves. That is what happened. I could manage to round up some sympathy for the loss of your son if your complete ignorance didn’t make me think you were part of the cause for his death. Kids need to learn respect–for themselves and others, responsibility for their own actions, accountability for their actions and the difference between right and wrong, lawful and unlawful. It is your job as his mama to teach these things. Actions have consequences. Learn this and teach it to any other children you are raising.
May Darius RIP and you find comfort that he didn’t take the life of an innocent.

    • ECJBMAS

There is nothing sad about this outcome. NOTHING. I assure you, the world is a better, safer place with Darius not on it

      • Katrina

It is sad that 14 and 15 y.o. are out pulling armed robberies and when they are stopped or killed, the media portrays them as child ‘victims’. It is sad that if it is police who stop them, families are awarded monetary settlements. Why? To encourage the next mama to raise her kid to commit crimes so she can be the next to win the lawsuit lottery?
You are correct that there is nothing sad about this outcome. It is sad that it happened in the first place. Three little delinquents, all raised with ignorant mama’s who see nothing wrong with their behavior, and each is nothing but a lottery ticket for mama.

        • ECJBMAS

You are correct. A truly sad testament to what our society has become. Darius being killed during the commission of a violent crime is most certainly NOT sad.

        • Paul Kersey

They don’t have an adolescence. They are like aligators. Dangerous at birth, they just grow bigger.

          • Katrina

I can’t agree. I truly believe at birth they are as loveable and helpless as any infant. It is the very early formative years that determines their outcome in life. Toddlers and preschoolers need loving discipline to learn right from wrong. Around six, they are developing their own internal conscience. They need continued parental guidance. They cannot be raised on the streets with trouble makers and gang members.
When they are raised by parents (or a parent) with no moral compass of their own, it is almost impossible to expect the child to have morals accepted by society. These people love to blame society rather than take responsibility for poor parenting. Society didn’t impregnate those mothers and society is not responsible to raise their offspring. Children should be wanted and parents should insure they are able to support them before having them.
When raised on the streets with no loving guidance and discipline at home, by six, I agree they are merely alligators who continue to grow larger and more dangerous. They weren’t raised as responsible human beings. I blame poor parenting.

    • Paul Kersey

Darius is now good and back in hell with Satan…

  25. Dick_Gosinya

Mom of the Year Reshawna Myricks wouldn’t let her little thuggish son out to pull armed robberies in daylight.

At least we won’t have to pay for him to do “Life on Installments”.

  26. The_Dadster

Another stupid minority c**t who is in denial about her son being a criminal POS.

    • Sheik Yerbouti

It’s because the laws against armed robbery were written by “old white men”. So most black American thug mommas don’t think they apply to their little darlings who were obviously on the way to choir practice after midnight basketball.

    • Just(R)ight.

He was a good boy. He was a straight A student, President of his class, and helped little old ladies cross the street.

      • Jim Cunningham

On his way to church don’t forget.

  27. tagfu222

This story can’t be true. It is not legal for a 15 year old to possess a handgun and according to his mother Darius would not do something illegal.

    • david5300

So it’s all a mistake and he was joking when he pointed his weapon at the cop !

      • GabbaGabba

Of course he was joking. It’s an inside joke among young, urban, astrophysicists to spoof robbery on a white guy. So unfortunate.

    • Boommach

Plus it’s California. Aren’t their gun laws particularly strict? They are protected from such things.

      • Katrina

Law abiding citizens have a difficult time getting a weapon to protect themselves in Cali. That is probably why this little thug felt free to rob the man of his belongings. Surprise!!

  28. Tom W

“The boy’s mother Reshawna Myricks said she cannot believe he’d be involved in a robbery. She said the officer should have fired warning shots — instead of aiming at the boys.”

Here’s a thought, Reshawna. Instead of the officer firing warning shots, why didn’t you warn your son Darius that robbery is a dangerous profession? “Darius, yo’ needs to quit robbin’ and stealin’ people’s stuff. Someone is goin’ to pop a cap in yo’ tail.”

  29. Shiloh

    Lead therapy for thugs.

  30. Jimbo

But, they were just turning their lives around!

  31. bilbo

If I hear one more “my baby wud nebuh do nutin like dat” I am gonna choke. And if I read one more follow up account of where the municipality where said incident occurs pays out millions of dollars to settle (?) the inevitable lawsuit brought by said mother and family, I am really gonna choke. Something’s wrong here people. It’s doubly stupid and it’s got to STOP!

  32. BHF ✔Covfefe

So was little baby Darius the thug with the gun? Wonder what Mama thinks about that.

  33. CanYouHearUsNow?

If mama’s don’t want their teens shot while committing robberies then raise them correctly.

    • Sheik Yerbouti

Yea, but then they get accused of Acting White and become the scourge of the ghetto. Why do we even have ghettos in the 21st century? And why are most of them owned by democrats?

      • CanYouHearUsNow?

The disastrous moron Lyndon Johnson is famous for two wars, the war in Vietnam and the war on poverty. Terrible commander in chief. They call the ghettos in Houston, 1st ward, 2cd ward, 3rd ward, 4th wards, 5th ward….. as in “wards of the state.” Huge 5 story apartment buildings, going for miles filled with poverty and roaches. Sickening.

  34. CanYouHearUsNow?

“I can’t recall if I fired 5 rounds or six……do you feel lucky punk?”
    Well do ya?

    • Elwood-27

      “Go ahead. Make my day.”

  35. David Lonergan

fire over his head?? what a joke…life in imminent danger shoot them all let god sort them out

    • CanYouHearUsNow?

Empty the chamber and discuss later.

  36. Brian Smaller

Let him walk on? Come on – I know you have lost a son but please. They had already assaulted the man and were pointing a gun at him. And to the grieving mother – this won’t have been the first time “your baby” did this but thankfully it will be the last.

  37. RTUT

Three problems: 1. Black groups of kids who can only think of robbing people. 2. A mother who thinks a man getting his ass kicked and a gun pointed at him should “fire a warning shot.” 3. A mother who does not know where her little thug is hanging with and might just try robbing someone.

    • BlueridgePatriot

      Waste her ass too!

    • Patriot_ll

Darwin smiles and says, ‘Lady, there’s more to life than breeding’.

    • bobdog19006

Maybe these two thugs should have notified this guy that they intended to rob him and asked for his cooperation or something.

How many times do we have to play out this stupid little drama?

I have zero sympathies for these thugs.

  38. Reiver

More sons of Obama that din’t du nuffin’.

  39. CountMontyC

Be a thug and face the consequences

  40. JohnK625

    A message to would-be criminals –

More and more, the odds are that the person you choose to attack will be armed and will kill you.

    Think about it.

    • Sheik Yerbouti

The media portrays regular working people, especially white people as buffoons who can’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Supposedly we have no rhythm, can’t dance, have no athletic talent, small dicks and of course ALL white people are racists. So naturally a group of undereducated thugs would see us all as easy pickins. Stay armed my friends, black thugs can’t be reasoned with and logic is useless.

      • JOE6PACK

Reasoning requires the ability to think. These kids only know violence.

      • Coonass

        We sure can shoot though.

        • Paul Kersey

You sure can. Simian predators with a low I.Q. and the maturity level of a spoiled 2 year old child with no impulse control, no ability to think what will happen one minute into the future along with a natural tendency for violence.
Worse than wild chimps running loose among the human population. Evolutionary throwbacks that aren’t capable of living in a civilized society. Dependant on white people for your existance but not even intellegent enough to recognize that and be grateful. You offer nothing but destruction, mayhem and murder and should be rounded up, locked in cages and sent back to Africa.
White people are fed up with you and a backlash is coming. Of course to understand that would require a level of reasoning that you don’t possess.

    • donfulano

Problem is, in California the odds that a private citizen would have a CC permit are pretty poor. It’s a Criminal’s Paradise.

      • JohnK625

Idaho recently enacted permit-free concealed carry.

Damn near everybody has a gun.

        • donfulano

Pretty much the opposite of LA County, where only the cops and criminals are armed.

      • Katrina

Finding out this guy was armed and ready to defend himself was the biggest and last surprise of this little thugs life. Mama’s, too, from the sound of it. That victim’s weapon was pulled to stop the threat and defend his life. No warning shots, mama. No on duty police to try to sue, either.

      • Paul Kersey

Orange County Sheriff makes it easy, although the process can take a few months. Many sheriffs issue permits also but the entire concept is a violation of the Second Amendment.
We are just coming out of the darkest period of U.S. history where under black rule, Africans in America were given the green light to act on their impulse to commit violence and general mayhem, the police were more likely to suffer legal consequences for intervening and the law abiding citizen could have his life ruined for daring to defend himself from the predatory nature of Obama’s sons.
