Maine State Police say a Cumberland County corrections officer accidentally shot an Aroostook County corrections officer Monday night inside a parked truck at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.
Police say 33-year-old Matthew Morrison, of Mars Hill, is being treated at Maine Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the leg.
Morrison was shot by a second correctional officer, 24-year-old Matthew Benger, of Portland, who works for Cumberland County, according to police.
Police say the shooting took place inside a pickup truck owned by a third correctional officer, 25-year-old Cody Gillis, of Brunswick, who also works for Cumberland County.
The three men were attending a five week basic corrections training program at the academy, according police.
The shooting took place around 8 p.m. as the three men were leaving the academy grounds.
