A Baltimore County Officer hit and killed a pedestrian over the weekend responding to a burglary call, officials said. The victim, who had not been in a crosswalk, was hit by a second vehicle as well, according to police.
Robert Louis Mayo, 71, of the 2800 block of Brighton Street, was pronounced deceased at the scene on Liberty Road near Meadowdale Drive, police said.
At 11:32 p.m. on Saturday, police said an officer was responding to a reported home invasion with a possible shooting in the 7400 block of Laseda Drive when he drove into the center turn lane to avoid traffic on eastbound Liberty Road near Meadowdale Drive.
His emergency lights were on, and traffic had backed up in the area, police said.
Mayo was trying to cross Liberty Road outside the crosswalk when he was hit by the police car and thrown into westbound traffic, where police said he was hit a second time by a Ford Explorer.
