Harris’ estate had sued the county over former Tulsa County Reserve Deputy Robert Bates’ fatal shooting of Harris three years ago during a gun sting. Former Sheriff Stanley Glanz and other deputies involved in the operation were named in the lawsuit.
The civil lawsuit has been dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled.
Harris had briefly run from deputies after selling a handgun to an undercover deputy.
Sheriff Vic Regalado released a prepared statement on the settlement:
“It’s in the best interest of all parties involved to resolve these claims at this time,” Regalado said. “I believe this decision will allow the process of healing to continue for the Harris family, the citizens of Tulsa County and the hard working men and women of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.”
