Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn addressed the media on Sunday afternoon after dealing with civil unrest following an officer involved shooting overnight. The officer, who is African American, has had threats on his life and is staying with family outside of the city.
Flynn defended the officer after some citizens say that the suspect was shot in the back.
He described the video as a “very brief foot chase” in which the suspect “had a firearm in his hand and turned towards the officer.”
“I know what I saw on the video. I know what I see in the still. It certainly appears to me that at the time he made that decision, it was a credible and legally protected decision.”
Flynn continued, “It was in his hand, he was raising up with it.”
Officers did administer CPR after the shooting.
