Officer Verdell Smith of the Memphis Police Department holding a sign that says “I Matter” last Wednesday for a campaign called ‘Law Enforcement Matters’.
Officer Smith was shot and killed while protecting his community just days later on Saturday.
Scott Madaus of Fox 13 News Facebook page posted the picture and said this:
“Yes you do sir. This is without question one of the most powerful yet haunting photographs I’ve ever seen in my life. I just received it from a close friend of mine who took it. This is a picture of Memphis Police Officer Verdell Smith who was killed Saturday night off Beale Street. The picture… Which might be the last photograph of Smith alive was taken last Wednesday for a campaign called “Law Enforcement Matters”. I know this entire situation is so incredibly hard for so many people… As always, all of my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Verdell Smith”
Smith, A Father to 3 children and beloved by all who knew him, had a life that mattered. It is likely that the last photograph ever taken of him will tell the entire world that very thing.
God bless you sir.
