Military Veteran Shows Why The Alton Sterling Shooting Was Justified

An Army veteran and firearms instructor is taking on those who say the Alton Sterling shooting wasn’t justified in a startling new Facebook video.

Mike Brown, Founder of the No Excuses Foundation is taking on the protesters who sprung up immediately after Alton Sterling was shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana while struggling with two police officers, claiming he posed no threat to officers.

In a new video posted to Facebook, Brown asks:

Can you shoot from your pocket? I show you that you can. Until you are in a struggle with a person alleged of having a gun…where you, the officer, cannot lose, you don’t know.

I got a lotta people who wanna talk about ‘his hands was down at his sides’, right? And ‘if he had a gun it was in his pocket’ and ‘he can’t reach for the gun’ or none of this other stuff.

So… here we go. This is my backup firearm, one of the many that I have,” he says as he displays what appears to be a Ruger LCR revolver

I’m just about to show you naysayers who probably haven’t had a lick of firearms training whether or not someone could actually shoot from their pocket. Here we go.”

Brown proceeds to put the revolver into the pocket of his shorts to continue his demonstration and prove his point to those that say the Baton Rouge police officers were in no danger.

If I had my hands in my pocket? Oh, sh*t! I can still shoot from here. How about that,” Brown says as he pulls the trigger repeatedly and the hammer can be hear slamming forward showing the gun would have fired easily when the trigger is pressed.

Brown then goes a step further, to address the people arguing that Sterling’s hands weren’t in his pocket, but just down on his side.

“Or, hands down by my side, how about that?!? I can still shoot from here. All I have to do is touch the trigger and shoot,” he says as he pulls the trigger while gripping the firearm through his pants.

Brown ends his video with these words, “So for those of you all who say the gun wasn’t fully extended and drawn… you don’t know a DAMN thing about guns.”

Except that both Alton’s hands were visible, neither was in his pocket.

  2. if u with them u ain't with us

Where they find these house niggas.

  3. BigDaddy Walker

You could hear the officers saying don’t do it don’t do it. And he continued to struggle and fight know he had a gun on him.

  4. J. Blatto

I guess if his hands were in his pockets, firing upon the officers is a possibility. With one hand pinned down by one officer and the other hand restrained by the other, it was murder.

  5. Tim Schaeffer

By that logic anyone who is exercising legal concealed carry (for example Castile) can be shot, even when following the officers instructions to produce his ID. Just because someone CAN shoot through their pocket doesn’t mean they INTEND to shoot through their pocket.

    • Jared

The problem with the Castile case is that the cop was fucking incompetent and got flustered, thinking he was going to be involved in a situation. In reality, the cop should have had Castile exit the car and retrieve the weapon first in a safe and timely manner (from what I was told by a former cop: he needed to have Castile keep his hands where he can see them, have him calmly step out of the car, have him turn around, cuff Castile so that he can retrieve the weapon and then uncuff Castile after verification).

It is NOT the same as the Sterling case where you should not, at any point, be reaching for anything during a legitimate struggle with the police. It doesn’t matter if he didn’t have the intent to shoot…….as a cop, you don’t have the luxury of kindly waiting for him to pull the gun out and to throw it away. The cops acted the way they did out of a potential attempt of being shot, regardless if the intent was there or not.

      • BigDaddy Walker

Hard to ask someone to get out of the car and keeping your hands in the air when your weapon is sitting in your lap.

      • Katrina

The article isn’t about Castile at all. But since you brought it up, NO one knows what happened before the girlfriend started filming. No one knows what Sterling’s right hand was doing other than the officers on scene. Pretty early to be able to make an intelligent judgment on either case. Yet here everyone is fighting with each other when NO one knows all the facts yet. Media and their bias get everyone worked up and angry whenever possible. They haven’t even reported on the white guy who was killed. Hmmm. Think they could be baiting us with race?

    • HikerJohn316

Yes logs and roofers do good work and face death. The difference is that the police are protecting you from those that would kill you.

    • BigDaddy Walker

Nothing indicated that he would have shot? Is record was a mile long.

    • Katrina

Because we hear so many cases of trees ambushing loggers and fish attacking fishermen. LEOs are well aware of the risk of their jobs. That is no reason for them to wait for someone to fire at them before defending themselves and the public.

Sorry but we are one of the only countries on the planet besides millitant countries that shoot so many of our citizens. It seems the news only shows the controversial ones. There are hundreds of unjustified shootings every year of people without weapons! No more excuses for our gun happy society. It’s a sick approach to law enforcement. Shoot anyone who doesn’t listen to you!

    • Ganesha_akbar

History will record that when BLM goons were murdering cops and innocent Americans were being bullied and beaten in the streets by LaRaza (“The Race”) racial-supremacists, O’mongrel’s Leftist cabal donned their pom-poms and encouraged the fascist brownshirts.

Islamists attack us in gun-free zones in Chattanooga, San Bernardino and Orlando, and the supposedly sophisticated and serious response is to demand a massive new push for more gun laws that would have done nothing to prevent this attack — or any other mass shooting in recent years.

Logically, this is a bit like responding to a wave of bloody grizzly-bear attacks by rushing to make sure the batteries in the smoke detectors are all working.

      • Katrina

Well said. Love the comparison….so very true!

  7. Muir

Dude, cmon. That sounds like bullshit. Don’t justify this.

  8. Kate Riviello

Just because he COULD have reached his firearm does not justify his murder. No cigar pal.

    • Sue Rawson

another moron makes a judgement call with no knowledge…

      • Tom

And you are not making judgement call yourself you fool!!!

      • Mansa Musa

Right but i forgot being white gives u all knowledge

  9. mp H

it is a sad day for everyone,,, why is it nowadays nobody listens to police commands,,, it could have ended differently,,,,, nobody die,,,,,,

  10. ahaz

Another lame-assed attempt to justify the unjustifiable. I’m really getting sick and tired of police officers executing citizens on the street, no matter what the race of the victim.

    • JR730

Your opinion is of little value because you ignore facts and have no experience.

    • Hoe Lemon ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

He committed suicide by reaching for his gun. it’s ALL his fault.

A cop isn’t taking any risk. Their life is more important than a criminal’s.

Now, the Philando Castile incident is another matter. That cop is clearly in the wrong.

      • Sandra Pizzi

        another coward………….hoe lemon………..no picture……….hit & run yapper………….

        • Hoe Lemon ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

          K, lady.

      • Muir

The guy wasn’t gonna fucking shoot at the cop.

        • Hoe Lemon ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

He was grabbing for his gun. Chances are he was going to shoot a cop. Cops did not want to find out.

        • Jen

Are you a mind reader? How can you make such a statement. You know as much as I, or anyone else knows, about what the suspect was thinking. Zilch, nada, no clue. So unless you know some facts, I’d keep your “opinion” to yourself

      • Eric Loving

Where did you see Alton reach for his gun…if you look at the video both cops had his hands pinned down.

        • dmainnyc

Please. His right-hand is out of view of the camera but you can clearly see that by the movement of his arm and shoulder that it must have been quite near–inches–to his right pocket, where the gun was.

And they only “had his hands pinned down” because they had to tackle him, not because he surrendered. How long were they supposed to fight with him?

At any moment, that gun and Sterling were mortal threats to the cops.

      • dmainnyc

The Philando Castile case seems not to be like Alton Sterling, but that seems to have a lot of holes in it, too, esp. what the girlfriend said. Maybe she’s in shock and was confused, but it seems incompatible for a cop to say put up your hands and get your driver’s license at the same time. Knowing that he had a gun on him, it’s unlikely that a cop’s primary move is going to want to see a driver’s license and more likely to say put the hands up. So, the GF’s statement, doesn’t appear to be credible. The cop saying he told him not to move is more likely to be accurate.

I don’t know if you read this, but it also appears that her saying they were pulled over for a busted taillight (which maybe she thought it was) is incorrect. More recent news indicates that he was pulled over because he matched a description of a recent armed robber of a nearby convenience store. If this is true, then its readily apparent that the cops were going in to the scene believing a gun might be involved and wouldn’t have been interested in a driver’s license at first.

Also, though you did not mention it, there’s no confirmation that he had a concealed carry permit, only her word. It may very well be true, but it may also be true that the reports of his matching a description of an armed gunman make that point moot.

At this point, I don’t really believe the girlfriend, though I don’t think she’s intentionally lying.

      • Mansa Musa

Coward ur life holds no value

        • Hoe Lemon ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

          Neither did his.

      • ahaz

Wrong and this is precisely half-brained attitude that permeates our police. They hold no value for the lives of the citizens they encounter.

        • Hoe Lemon ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ

“They hold no value for the lives of the citizens they encounter.”

          That’s BS.

          • ahaz

Really, then can use explain to me how over 1200 citizens end up dead at the hand of police each year, many of which are unarmed or show signs of mental illness. Can you explain to me how officers in the UK can take into custody suspects that are armed with knives and other edged weapons without resorting to deadly force, whereas the same suspect in the US will likely be shot and killed. Can you explain to me how a 12 year old playing in a park can end up dead within 2 seconds of encountering police. Can you explain to me how a man shopping in target can be killed within 2 seconds of encountering the police or explain to me how a mentally ill and unarmed homeless man in a park can be beaten to death by over 6 officers. Yeah buddy, I think I’ve proven my point whereas you engage in hero worship for the types of officer that only exists in reruns of the Adny Griffth show or Adam 12.

      • ahaz

There’s no video ever that he reached for his gun, only the word of a police officer from a department that has a long history of abuse toward African Americans.

      • Cheryl Young

Hoe Lemon, Alton Sterling wasn’t engaged in criminal activity when he was murdered. He was doing what he did everyday for years, selling cd’s or dvd’s. So I don’t know how you can just throw that term criminals out there. And for your information, Alton Sterling’s life was just as important as those murderous police officers. If you don’t believe it, ask his five children!

    • Sandra Pizzi

      ahaz………with no picture…..wonder why………..coward………..attack and run………..

      • Rose Blankenship

WTF does a picture have to do with this

    • Robert A Sheridan

The Washington Post compiled a database of all police shootings in the country and found 990 people were shot dead by police in 2015. Of those, only 93 were unarmed; 38 were black and unarmed. Of the 505 people shot dead by police in 2016 so far, 37 were unarmed; 13 were black and unarmed.

      • IthinkTheyRcrazy

Soooo…that means 24 unarmed persons were either white, or other races? I thought the cops were only killing black people?

Honestly…it doesn’t matter the race—because every one of these individuals–all 505 of them–and 990 of the perpetrators in 2015 are still all part of the human race–as well as the police officers who thought their lives in dangers because of the actions these individuals took.

Besides, all of this blood is on Obama’s hands. This all got started when Obama called a white ciop in Cambridge, MA , a ‘stupid’ cop because the officer in question was trying to get information out of an African American, who just happened to be one of Obama’s friend. The Officer did know that fact at the time, nor did the officer know that the individual was a college professor, nor did he know that the individual actually owned the house in question. All the officer knew at the time was that a neighbor had called in to report somebody was breaking into the house. That was all he responded to. But Obummer called that cop stupid–and the resistance began. Yay us!

        • Tom

What sort of stupid fool are you? Are you saying that police shootings only started after what was said by President Obama!??? What an amazing animal filth you are you clown!!!

          • IthinkTheyRcrazy

It is easy to insult people when you have a monitor in front of you. But would be able to have a non abrasive conversation in person? If not–and your tactis is to be insulting in all of your conversations, well…I guess your are not going to be able to gain many friends and influence them during your life time–now will you?

          • Tom

Believe it or not I see that you are not only stupid but a freaking hypocrite!!! Aren’t you the one who is blaming someone with some crazy justification for all of the police shootings and then calling him a name behind your monitor!??? Yeah…you are super brave and YES if you say this in front of me I will say what I said to you right in front of your face Mr hypocrite!!!
