The San Marcos (TX) community is raising money for a police officer who is recovering at home after accidentally swallowing a piece of metal, which his family thinks was maliciously put into his food.
Detective Robert Elrod was released from the hospital Tuesday after he accidentally swallowed about an inch of metal, KEYE reported Wednesday. He underwent surgery Friday to remove the metal. Elrod’s family believes the piece of metal was a form of attack on the officer.
“The doctor, because of the size of the object and the shape, did confirm there is no way it could have been accidentally swallowed,” Paul Elrod, the detective’s brother told KEYE. “It had to have been folded up, compress temporarily, put into a certain shape to be inserted in food to be swallowed and not noticed.”
