A New York Environmental Conservation officer is undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound after investigating reports of potential illegal hunting activity in Columbia County.
Police say Lieutenant Eliza Bobseine and Officer James Davey were investigating a reported trespass complaint with shots fired. While walking through the field, Officer Davey was shot one time with a rifle in his leg.

Davey was transported and is being treated at Hudson Regional Hospital.
Police say the shooter 55-year-old Alan Blanchard and his hunting partner, James Brown remained at the scene at assisted with rescue efforts.
Blanchard was charged with 2nd-degree assault and was arraigned.
The investigation is still ongoing.
