The Dallas News reports that the Dallas Police Department has discontinued its policy of waiting 72 hours to interview officers involved in police shootings.
The announcement came late Thursday as part of the department’s response to a 14-point list of demands made by the Next Generation Action Network. The group has railed against police brutality nationwide and called locally for more community oversight in officer-involved shootings.

“Effective immediately, every officer will be provided the same legal rights as any other citizen who is the subject of a criminal investigation,” the department said in a statement.
Law Officer has discussed this ridiculous demand made by so called activist groups in the past and we maintain that it is an “uneducated, baseless request that makes no sense unless you want to harm law enforcement.”
Now that police chief’s are now ignoring the “best practice” that has been developed through decades of investigations, we side with the statement of the Dallas Police Department.
We have the “same legal rights as any other citizen who is the subject of a criminal investigation” so we recommend using “the right to remain silent.”
Once again, if we bow down to those that know nothing about law enforcement, the scientific research or investigations, law enforcement becomes more difficult for everyone involved and in this case, the investigation will suffer.
