WIVB4 reports that a group of suspected home invaders opened fire on police as they ran from the scene of the crime, police said on Monday afternoon.
Officers say the three people attempted a home invasion just before 1:15 p.m. in the first block of Bruce Street, making off with a large amount of money. While on the run, Northeast District police say they encountered the suspects and were fired upon.
Buffalo police say at least one of the suspects opened fire on officers, although no shots hit their targets.
As roughly 20 officers responded to the scene to aid in the chase, police say they quickly took one suspect into custody. The foot chase continued on, but Buffalo police took down the suspect in the 400 block of Winston Avenue. Officers cuffed a third suspect near the scene who they believe acted as the getaway driver.
Recovered in the three arrests were two handguns and the large sum of money the homeowners said had been stolen.
The investigation is continuing.
