BARNEGAT, N.J. (WTFX) – It was a daring rescue that could have cost them their lives. Now, two Barnegat, N.J., police officers are being hailed as heroes.
On Monday night, Officer Lauren Keilitz and Officer Michael Diblasi were responding to a car fire when they found the driver trapped inside.
What happened next was caught on the officers' dashboard video cameras, including the following conversation:
"Hello, is anybody in there?"
"Where is he?"
"Jesus Christ, we can't get to this door."
"He's in here Mike!"
"Get out of the car!"
"Sir, get out of the car! Come on, get out of the car now. Open your door!"
When the officers realized the door was broken, they smashed the window and pulled the driver out.
The victim suffered smoke inhalation but will be OK, thanks to the brave actions of those two officers.
