VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.—A Virginia Beach police officer is facing more charges stemming from an incident that occurred after he wrecked his car.
Media outlets report that the Virginia State Police charged 23-year-old Bradley Colas on Wednesday with attempted murder and a firearms count.
Colas previously was charged with two counts of malicious wounding of an emergency medical care provider. He's accused of stabbing two firefighters after he crashed his car into a tree in Hallwood on March 4.
The new charges allege that Colas pulled out a gun and shot at emergency responders.
Colas' attorney, Moody E. Stallings Jr., says the new charges don't change the officer's defense.
Stallings blames the incident on side effects from an antibiotic that Colas took for a respiratory infection.
Colas remains employed by the police department.
