CARMEL, Ind. – Carmel police say two teenagers died after the car they were riding in hit a utility pole, flipped and caught fire while the driver sped away from an officer trying to stop him for speeding.
Police in the community north of Indianapolis said in a statement the officer tried to stop the car about 10:50 p.m. Friday, but the driver sped away. The officer was pursuing the car when the crash occurred.
Police say the driver got out of the car after the crash and yelled that his friends were inside. He was hospitalized, but his condition wasn't available. Police said the three were believed to be 15-year-old boys from the Carmel area.
Police planned to discuss possible charges with prosecutors. More information wasn't immediately released.
