GAFFNEY, S.C. — A Gaffney police officer has been charged with felony DUI after authorities say the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole, injuring a passenger.
The Highway Patrol says a 2002 Honda driven by 28-year-old Officer Erik Mowery went off the right side of a Gaffney road at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said 18-year-old passenger William Boyce Peeler was airlifted to a hospital and listed in fair condition.
Mowery was hurt but was treated and released from the hospital. He resigned from the force Saturday night and has been released from jail on $20,000 bond.
It wasn't clear if Mowery had an attorney. His first court appearance is set for July.
